Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Harper.
Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing bass guitar at the age of 13 in Carson, California……. my mom would drive me to the local music store which was only about 10 minutes from our house for a weekly lesson.
Even though I already had been in school talent shows singing & dancing before, I had never played bass guitar in front of an audience until my Junior High School talent show at age 14. I can still remember like it was yesterday when our band hit the first three notes….. the audience jumped up and screamed with joy, that’s when I knew music was something I wanted to do for life!
Over the years, I continued auditioning and playing with various local bands throughout the Los Angeles County area, I also attended as many concerts as I possibly could which in turn fueled my aspirations and desires to continue on the road to becoming the professional musician I am today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My only obstacle along the way was LIFE………….. I was a young man growing up in a big city without a father figure, so you can say I graduated from the school of hard knocks.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional bass player who also wears the hats of Producer, Composer, Arranger, and Songwriter. I am known primarily for my work in the Funk Music genre, but I can also rock out and play other styles of music if I choose to do so.
Today, I am most proud of my achievements in recording and songwriting, currently I have recorded and registered over 33 songs that get airplay on over 16 radio stations worldwide….. not bad for an Independent Artist in today’s music industry.
I am also proud of my new home rehearsal studio I just constructed, it’s fully equipped and I even rent it out to the public on occasion…. I’m all about helping others!
I’ve also self-produced three commercial music videos that have included such celebrated guests as Greg Boyer and Garrett Shider who are current members of Parliament/Funkadelic, and I’ve recently collaborated with George Clinton’s niece “Shirley Clinton” on my latest single to be released Thanksgiving Day!
As an Independent Artist, I’m also proud to have 10 sponsors that have endorsed me with music equipment/gear.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a very God-fearing person, full of faith, very generous, and compassionate to the human race. I have a deep concern for the homeless population here in the United States and Worldwide, and I love animals too!
