Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique Cooper.
Hi Domonique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, my name is Domonique Cooper. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. I attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Towson Catholic High School. I graduated high school in 2003. I then went on to attend and graduate from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2007.
Unfortunately due to the murder of my grandmother in Baltimore City, I relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2011.
While I have been away from Baltimore for twelve years, I still hold a very special place in my heart for Baltimore. Baltimore represents my roots, my family, my educational experience, and my career beginnings. I was born at Mercy Medical Center and I also have two children born in Charm City.
I am sure to take my Baltimore swag, Baltimore ambition, and Baltimore hustle everywhere with me. Although I am almost 700 miles away I am still connected to the city in every way possible.
Over the years, I have gained new skills, abilities, and talents that all started with my work in Baltimore. There is no way I made it. But I did! I am a product of a single-parent household, a first-generation college student, a two-time teen mom myself, and a product of a family from West Baltimore.
I am proud to announce that I am a candidate for Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 Board of Education. Gwinnett is the number 1 largest school district in Georgia, the 11th largest in the nation, and the 7th most diverse in the nation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth. As a native of Baltimore, I talk, walk, act, and perform differently than others where I now reside. However, being a Baltimore breed gives me tenacity and grit like never imagined.
When I lived in Baltimore I took those attributes for granted now I understand the sparkle and joy in the Baltimore vibe in personal and professional settings. Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 8 years ago has given me my passion and purpose in unimaginable ways.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a former federal government employee for the Social Security Administration. I retired in 2015 after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Since my diagnosis, I have become an entrepreneur, author, co-author, substitute teacher, and education consultant/strategist. I am known for my efficiency, community engagement, positive partnerships, quick response time, and joyous personality.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see that there will be an overhaul of education. I see additional technology trends in education to make the job of educators more tech-savvy. Additionally, I see the implementation of more AI in lesson plans and school assignments.
I also see more mental wellness support for staff and students in all schools nationwide as well as embrace the need for mental health support.
