Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Webber.
Hi Renee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Renee Webber, I am a Baltimore native, with an amazing transformation story! I was raised by a single mom, had a daughter as a teenager, lived in poverty, experienced abuse and sexual assault, and faced many other disparities that my community is plagued with!
When someone asked what I wanted to do when I grew up I said I wanted to be a business owner because I knew that owning a business did not correlate to the conditions that I had to endure as a child.
I am living out my dream! I have started a few businesses. I am a natural hairstylist, and owner of Renew Lifestyles, Inc., a VIP natural hair salon. a part-time chef and co-owner at Ashe Caffe and Bakery, a mobile meal prep and catering company. However, my true passion is in making an impact in my community by offering a solution to many of the disparities that I had to overcome.
An impact that will outlive me and inspire future generations to become empowered personally and in business. The Queens’ Sisterhood Society is my passion business. We are a non-collegiate sisterhood and investment club. We promote personal and business growth, building relationships, and building wealth. We are aligned in our philanthropy and are committed to sowing back into our community.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to success is far from smooth! We encountered numerous barriers along the way, from establishing trust with members to encouraging investments, to fostering community growth throughout the challenges posed by COVID. Additionally, we faced the task of solidifying our credibility as a social organization.
In the black community, trust has been elusive for various reasons. To address this, we prioritized transparency as a means of fostering member trust in our investment initiatives. We adopted a quarterly reporting system that provides comprehensive insights into our earnings, along with issuing regular statements. Moreover, we empower our members by involving them in leadership roles and active participation in committees such as finance, investment, sisterhood, and marketing and events.
The onset of the pandemic forced us to shift from our comfortable co-working space to virtual platforms like Zoom. Despite this setback, our dedicated leaders fearlessly steered our community’s growth and remained committed to our mission. Conquering miscommunication and relationship breakdowns posed yet another obstacle. To navigate this, we established principles that harness relationship-building skills to mend misunderstandings, foster forgiveness, and collectively strive toward fulfilling our mission and vision.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Queens Sisterhood Society?
The Queens Sisterhood Society is essentially a non-collegiate sisterhood and investment club. We are a village! Our members range from 28 to 74 years old. We meet monthly to build relationships and bonds. We have also extended investing to non-members through an affiliate program to expand our efforts.
We also invest and give back to charity. Our charity of choice is QSS Baltimore, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to closing wealth disparities through educating black women and the youth to sustain themselves financially, learn to manage finances, and become active investors. I am the CEO and dedicated to service! I ensure every department is running optimally and that we meet our targets, and build strategic partnerships,
I am most proud of our accomplishment of becoming hotel owners. We currently have two hotels in our portfolio, The Hampton Inn by Hilton in Douglas Georgia, and The Holiday In. Express in Picayune, Mississippi.
I want QSS to leave a legacy of knowledge, wisdom, and wealth!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
