Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Holland.
Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my first camera in 5th grade, a tiny red camcorder from my uncle John. Not too long after, when 6th grade came around, I got a tiny zoom lens Sony camera which I used throughout middle school to make vlogs. Mainly, I took pictures here and there, but videography was my primary pursuit. Fast forward to ninth grade, I found myself in a photography class.
I felt it was time to step up with this as I felt so passionately about it and truly wanted to pursue it. I convinced my parents to buy me a professional camera, a canon t5i at the time. It was in ninth grade that I still pursued videography but got more into photography and started my Instagram @mandypv_visuals which I still have not changed the name of eight years later.
Many people ask what the PV stands for; It stands for Photography and Videography.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my most considerable struggles over time has been honing down on a niche; many times in this craft, one of the biggest things people talk about is finding your niche. I have yet to hone in on one. Photography and videography have many, and I have found a love for many different ones; over time, I have seen how this has stunted some growth as I am not known for one thing.
Regardless, I have learned to see this as a positive more than a negative as my perspective has shifted from having pressure on myself trying to choose one genre to love that I shoot a variety of things and knowing I can be and am successful despite that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Known as MandyPvVisuals or Mandy Visuals, I am a photographer/videographer who is known for my visuals in and around the city of Baltimore.
I am proud that I have found something that brings me much joy at a young age, and I hope to pursue it in many different ways as long as I remain. I’d say what sets me apart from others is my style, as I would say my work is truly an extension of me in the way I edit and shoot.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as doing what you feel you were put on this earth to do and doing it to the best of your ability.
The world needs what I have to offer as well as what whoever is reading this has, and I would hope that everyone finds what sets them ablaze and brings them much fulfillment and joy.
