Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Carter. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Jasmine Carter also known as Snazzy Jazzy is a Performance Artist based in Maplewood, New Jersey but travels back and forth to the Parkville, Maryland area of Baltimore. She is the owner of Infinite Storey Studio’s LLC where she has merged the beauty of dancing (20 years) and painting (7 years) together as one body of work bringing the community in on this healing experience.
Her journey started back in 2015 at a credit recovery high school in South West, Philadelphia, PA as an art teacher where she connected with students ages 16-24 years old. Her way of engaging them was through their individual stories in abstract form and poetry. This experience helped them release and heal themselves of their trauma which made them feel FREE. This idea inspired her to use this on adults which turned into the birthing of Infinite Storey Studios.
Infinite Storey Studio is named after her late mother Juanita Kathleen Storey Carter (1961-2004). I believe we all have a story that lives forever so why not tell it in a healthy way that helps us heal? Snazzy Jazzy’s work is a story from each chapter of her life, her process is based on emotions which she matches with colors that lead her in an abstract direction. Her Great Grandmother, Juanita Heath Fitzgerald Watson (1911-1999) was an abstract artist, spirit runs through her veins and exudes through her work as her abstract legacy lives on.
Snazzy Jazzy’s mission statement is all about Guiding others in a Movement & Abstract Art healing experience for those who want to connect artistically through verbal and creative communication. This experience is not just for recreation but for corporate team building, professional development, or youth groups helping others communicate and grow in a different form of expression. Snazzy Jazzy refers to her story as “The Butterfly Journey” and as this journey continues she hopes to guide & help join the community beautifully and artistically.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe my challenges have helped mold the woman I today. My challenges have made me remember that this life is a journey, not a race. There was a time I lost my job and I was late on my rent and at the time all I had was 10 16×20 canvases and acrylic paint.
I was still establishing myself and didn’t really know what direction I was going in but I had a lot of faith that I wanted to be an artist and help heal my community through abstract art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the owner of my business Infinite Storey Studio, I specialize in guiding others in a movement and abstract art healing experience for those who want to artistically connect through verbal and creative communication. We are known for our “Guided Paint Sessions” and our “Move and Paint Sessions” the guided paint session.
I’m most proud of the safe space I allow for others to express themselves in ways they didn’t think they could. What sets me apart from other businesses is that I incorporate and combine not only the painting portion but the movement. I believe moving through stimulates the brain and body to naturally express and engage.
What matters most to you? Why?
IMPACT and helping heal the community matters the most to me.
Mental health has always been important but in 2023 it’s the leading cause of disability worldwide. If I can be a guide in some way to add light to this world and people’s lives then I feel like I’m serving my purpose and exuding the gift God has given me.
