Check Out Caylin Zerr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caylin Zerr.

Hi Caylin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Art has always been my passion so I decided to pursue it at a collegiate level in 2013. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017 and found a graphic design job shortly after.

However, digital art was not my passion. I love working with a tool in my hand.

So by pure happenstance, I walked into a tattoo shop on a random Sunday afternoon just to get a tattoo and left with an apprenticeship that day. I haven’t looked back since. It’s now been 5 years and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not. Coming up in a male-dominated industry had its struggles. I spent much of my early years/apprenticeship trying to prove my talent while simultaneously dealing with the misogyny associated with many of the people I looked up to.

It seemed that I had to try twice as hard to be taken seriously by my peers than if I had been a male. Thankfully, my clients did not have the same mindset and they are who have gotten me to where I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a fine-line black and grey tattoo artist. I absolutely love nature and botanical imagery as well as very meticulous detailed work.

I feel that my attentiveness to my clients’ opinions and ideas in combination with my ability to take a loose idea and make a cohesive piece are what help my clients make the decision to continue working with me time and time again.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are two ways to support me. In terms of a tattoo client, I need trust and clear communication.

As a friend and current or future client, one of the best ways to support me is by sharing my work. Whether by word of mouth, handing out business cards, or sharing my posts on social media.
