Today we’d like to introduce you to Alma and Raquel Fisher.
Hi Alma and Raquel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
We started in the school choir in Baltimore City. We later began singing in church. Once Raquel and I started singing together, it was a wrap. In the sense that we were always called to sing a duet in church.
Sometimes we tried to duck being called to sing, but we were not always successful. We started singing professionally in 2019. Things starting to take off for us very quickly. We opened for Le’Andria Johnson at the end of the same year and Jessica Reedy at the beginning of the following.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for us, but God has graced us to endure the struggles. One struggle was accepting that not everyone will support your mission or purpose.
We thought because it was positive and a God-given calling, all friends and loved ones would support. We learned this was not the case, but we do have some faithful loved ones and friends who show their support. However, we do understand that people do not have to support us, so we genuinely appreciate their support.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are The Fisher Girls. Our names are Alma and Raquel Fisher.
We are biological sisters who sing and write gospel music. Our style of gospel music sets us apart from others. We have jazz, blue tone, and sing with a Neo-Gospel style of music.
What do you think about luck?
We believe that God has blessed us tremendously, since our pursuit of gospel music. We have accomplished many things since our start: we have won multiple awards for our gospel music and have been considered for a Grammy in an R&B compilation on Who? Mag volume 8 for our song “Narrow Way.”
This song has also charted on billboards and was #1 on BDS Internet radio station. Most recently, we were recognized by Ebony magazine for the Influential Black Women. The good has outweighed the bad each and every time and we are grateful to God for it! Our latest song release is: “Let You Go” and we are expecting continued and even greater success with this release!
