Today we’d like to introduce you to Bearden Douglas.
Hi Bearden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography through using my friend’s camera. We were just having fun, shooting anywhere we could or couldn’t. I just happened to take the best photos out of us all. Using a camera was just natural to me. It was always something I decided to keep to myself at first, but when I decided to share my work, everything changed. Sharing my work was what got my everything I have today. Just people knowing what you do is so important.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been full of ups and downs. Self-doubt was a struggle for me artistically. Not being sure if I even liked the work I was producing was the worst. Another struggle was learning the business side of photography. Dealing with clients and making contracts was never something I was planning on being good at. No matter what, the struggle is always worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in photography and cinematography. I am known for doing both of those. I am most proud of being able to bring people together through my work. Being able to bring people into my world with a photograph is what sets me apart from others. The composition to the color grading. I am most proud of producing my first photobook this year called ‘Real.’ Thanks to my team, I was able to finish it with a bang and a strong support system.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor is to not rush it and accept different mentors for different aspects of your life. Remain humble and apply what you’re taught. Always follow up with the people you network with. Learn more about them and tell them about yourself. Everyone has a unique story, so always listen well. To form a strong network, I suggest to just hang out with the people you meet. Be genuine.
