Life & Work with Dayshawn Bolling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayshawn Bolling.

Hi Dayshawn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started designing and putting clothes together in high school when I couldn’t afford the pieces I wanted.

Being highly influenced by icons like Pharrell with BBC and Kanye (Pink Polo era), and friends, I remember trying to copy them with adding my own swag to it. I started bringing the things I was envisioning to life around that time. I remember freshman year cutting up a lot of clothes, ironing on words, and designs on hoodies and shirts.

Being innovative and learning that I can express myself through clothing landed me where I am today… I created my own clothing brand which opened the door for me to style multiple people in the entertainment industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been far from smooth, and I think that’s the one thing everybody should understand about entrepreneurship. Some people just know how to make it look good, but I believe the uneasy process and the adversity that comes with this is what shapes you.

I’ve experienced numerous roadblocks along the process, such as missed opportunities, being told “No” a thousand times before you get that first “Yes,” not being able to cover manufacturing costs, getting discouraged, and struggling to bring my vision to life at times… When starting a clothing brand with no capital and having to do the groundwork the journey’s tough but very rewarding when it all works out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a designer and personal stylist based in Maryland.

I think I’m known for my clothing brand called “7FAVORS.” I started back in 2017-2018.

I believe my unorthodox creativity and style is what separates me from others.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When networking, approach it with an open mind and always ready to take advantage. I think coming into a networking event not looking for a specific person to help me in one specific area has landed me some great relationships! Networking has gotten me in certain rooms I never thought I would be in or has pointed me in the right direction to get the best quality in something I might find beneficial to what I got going on.
