Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Taylor.
Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Fresh flowers – for my home or for a party – have always been a requirement for me. After spending several years living in New York City, I was spoiled with easy access to all things, especially to amazing flowers…
Fast forward to the summer of 2019, my third child was turning one; life seemed to have settled down a bit. One night I was thinking about how difficult it was to get flowers around here. The grocery store flowers (albeit Trader Joe’s has a decent selection) was always disappointing and low-quality. I’d pay for plastic wrap bunches, bring them home, and hope they’d survive the next 2 days. So different from the NYC days…
I was talking to my husband one night about this – and I opened up Pinterest, and a Flower Truck popped up. Fate? Probably just the phone listeners out there throwing ads my way, but I bit. We started searching for a flower truck and found one in Utah and shipped it here. It was an agonizing 7 days wondering if the little VW transporter would arrive – and then it did.
The first few months were crazy with that truck – the customer demand was high, the flowers were blooming, but weather and a finicky engine kept dragging us down. So, we decided to really lean in and found a storefront across the street from our favorite truck spot – and started the flower shop!
We’ve had the shop open since January 2021, and it has been amazing. Due to that, the truck is out only on limited occasions, but we hope to bring it back more this season!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles, um yes. We started the flower truck in November 2019, expecting our first full season to begin in March 2020. But you might have heard of something called a Global Pandemic! Yikes – that was difficult. The first few weeks we were supposed to be out we shut down to limit the spread. But that actually turned out okay. We started a weekly flower delivery since everyone was stuck at home! It helped us get our name and brand out there and brought joy to so many people who were struggling with the quarantine. For a new business owner, it also allowed me to dabble in what flowers were best and lasted the longest for my customers. It was a learning curve & a lot of work, but it was something I will never forget!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our flower shop is not like a traditional florist. We have a laid-back, casual vibe.
The shop itself has an open stem bar that our customers come make their own bouquets. We also offer assistance or create something for them. It can be full service or a creative activity to customize a creation!
Additionally, we only purchase high-quality flowers & process them very diligently. Then they are stored in our cooler for most of their shelf life. The flowers you see at the grocery stores are sitting out all the time & are usually a lower-quality variety.
Our product management allows for a longer vase life and happier customers!
There is nothing worse than buying flowers that die right away. We’ve been told our flowers last almost two full weeks. Obviously, there is always a dud in the bunch, but I encourage my customers to bring them back to us, and we will replace if it’s only been a few days since they’ve purchased.
We want flowers to be peaceful, fun & casual addition to our customers’ lives.
